BT Vision Prices Set for Sky Sports 1 And 2

Further to its announcement that BT Vision Customers will be able to watch Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 in time for the start of the football season, BT has announced some very competitive prices for the service.

BT will charge customers £16.99 a month for both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2. One channel will cost £11.99.

Customers can sign up now so that they have the channels available for the start of the Premier League season which begins on 14 August.

For BT customers opting for a broadband bundle package including TV, Broadband and calls, either Sky Sports 1 or Sky Sports 2 can be added for only £6.99 per month or both can be added for £11.99 per month.

With this news, it means that sports fans really do have options across Sky, Virgin Media and BT to choose from. For those that don’t live in an area with Virgin Media cabling, there is a competitive alternative to Sky.

Gavin Patterson, chief executive of BT Retail, said: “Football fans will be cheering our new prices, which mark an end to paying for basic channels when you only want the sport.”

BT is able to offer Sky Sports channels following an Ofcom ruling in march that Sky drop the wholesale price of the channels to rivals by 20%.

BT is clearly fighting to win customers with their new Sports offering and is investing heavily to promote it. No doubt their cause will be helped by the fact that Sky today have announced a surprise increase in the price of its sports channels package.

From 1 September, Sky will increase the cost of its basic subscription plus Sky Sports 1 and 2 to £29 per month, up from £26 per month. This compares to the BT vision offering which means customers will be able to watch these channels for less that £20 per month.
