With four bank holidays in April this year, Brits are taking advantage to go abroad on holiday, meaning they will miss the Royal wedding as in contrast tourists flock in to the country to see it.

Prepaid Travel CardsAccording to research by Travelmatch.co.uk, there’s been a significant increase in the holiday bookings for the end of April.

Brits only need to take 3 days off work to get a 10 day holiday because of the bank holidays – Good Friday, Easter Monday, the Royal wedding and May Day.

Luxury tour operator Kuoni are already offering Big Bank Holiday escape packages lasting for up to seven days, while Thomson Holidays sell low-cost bargain packages for the Easter period.

It’s not just the tempatation though to take a long holiday with minimal days off work, April particularly appeals as it gives a chance to have a break after the long winter period.

Travelmatch.co.uk founder Alex Francis commented: “The warming weather is appealing to people who crave relaxation. At the end of April and beginning of May most resorts in southern Europe are still gearing for the summer season and remain largely empty.

This allows tourists to have a nice spring vacation at a lower price and without the stress of getting on crowded flights or staying in noisy overpopulated hotels.”

Around 40% of Brits head off to southern Europe and North Africa in search of sunshine and relaxation, with hotspot destinations of Greece and Turkey which are the warmest in Europe this time of the year. Some of course do go further afield and book holidays to the Maldives, the Seychelles and Mauritius.

MoneyHighStreet.com comment: As well as looking for your best travel deal, don’t forget to sort your holiday money and get the best deal on that too – have you considered a prepaid travel card?

There’s also travel insurance to consider. Booking your holiday is of course great to do and many don’t think of buying travel insurance at this point – you do though really need to address this as soon as you’ve paid for your trip – see our article ‘When Should You Buy Travel Insurance‘ for more on this.
