Holiday travel to the sun this winter is becoming ever more popular as holidaymakers look to escape the bitter cold temperatures, snow and ice.

Holiday Travel InsuranceWith a white Christmas predicted for many, last minute holiday bookings to the places such as the Spanish Islands, Mexico, Egypt and  Turkey are rising as people seek to escape the ice and snow – at least that way they avoid the worry of whether to turn to snow tyres for their cars!

According to Travelsupermarket, thre’s been a 35% increase in people searching for a Christmas or New Year holiday compared with this time last year.

It’s not just to get to some warmth though, many are looking to get away to avoid the stress of commuting, whether by road or rail, as the effects of snow and ice disrupt travel.

A short city break in place like Madrid or Barcelona is also on the cards for many.

Interestingly many are looking to book 10-11 night breaks rather than the traditional 2 week holidays, according to Travel Counsellors.

Some are of course taking advantage of the snow conditions and looking for a family ski holiday.

Wherever you are looking to go though, heading off on holiday and leaving your home to do battle with the elements does need some planning, not least to help ensure you don’t return to burst pipes.

There’s also the key point to make sure you have adequate travel insurance cover, not forgetting your holiday travel money of course.

With the Met Office already confirming that this is the coldest December since 1981, and the next Big Freeze on its way, it seems this winter weather could be even colder than the notorious one of 1962-63.

No wonder so many are looking to go on holiday!
