When On Holiday Do You Send A Postcard Or Rely On A Text Or Facebook?

If you’re having a great holiday do you put pen to paper and send a postcard to tell family and friends or do you turn to your smartphone to send a text or email or perhaps update your Facebook page?

Prepaid Currency CardAccording to research by AA Travel Insurance, the nation is losing the art of penning a postcard with only a third saying they’ll take the time to use this traditional way of saying ‘wish you were here’.

That said, whilst some 3% of those surveyed don’t send any kind of message home whilst on holiday, the vast majority do.

The most popular way to express holiday happiness is to send a text, followed by emailing pictures of where you are and adding updates to Facebook pages.  With the advent of ever more versatile communications devices, some now even send a multi-media clip.

Mark Huggins, director of AA Travel Insurance, laments the passing of the traditional post-card.  “This really is the most personal way to send a message home – from choosing the image to composing a compelling summary of your thoughts in your own handwriting.

And, of course, pens don’t need a left-at-home charger to work, while losing a ballpoint in the sand won’t result in an insurance claim! Most people enjoy receiving a postcard through their letterbox, too.”

Whilst the postcard may be falling out of favour, another card, the prepaid currency card, is growing in favour.

As Mark Huggins says, “Currency cards are rapidly becoming the most convenient and secure way to take care of your holiday money.”

There are many such cards available, including from such as the AA, CaxtonFX and FairFX.

MoneyHighStreet.com comment: We have for some time now been extolling the virtues of using a prepaid currency card for your holiday travel money and would again reinforce that they are well worth considering.

Another point to note though is whilst it is very easy to carry on with your social networking whilst on holiday, updating you Facebook page etc., do be careful about what you say and give away. Remember who has access to your information and don’t divulge too much personal information and put yourselves at risk.
