Pets Health Becomes A Costly Affair

New research shows that pets are costing their owners a sizeable amount, in both cash and time off work.
New research by The Co-Operative Insurance, reveals that owners spend some £326 per year paying for treatment and taking time off work to look after their sick pets.
Pet health issues though are not just those that you might immediately think of but include conditions perhaps more usually associated with humans, such as anxiety and depression, obesity and diabetes.
Over 20% of pets have had to be taken to the vets by worried owners in just the last year and 60% of pets have needed vet treatment at some point in their lives.
Some pets haven’t even made it to the vets as their owners worry that the costs will be too much.
Even with the high probability of needing to take a pet to the vet, it is surprising to see that over 60% of pet owners haven’t got pet insurance.
As Lee Mooney, Head of Pet Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance, said: “Veterinary treatment isn’t cheap, therefore it is extremely important, especially with winter just around the corner, that pet owners put money aside every month or take out insurance to ensure that their pet doesn’t suffer when it is ill because it is too expensive to obtain specialist treatment.”
MoneyHighStreet comments: “Owning a dog or cat costs more than you might think and protecting yourself and your pet with the best pet insurance is certainly something to consider.
