Almost 30% of Brits admit to returning clothing for a refund even after the items have been worn, do you?
Research released today by shopping website Vouchercodes.co.uk has revealed that some 28% of Brits admit to returning items of clothing for a refund after wearing them, with 7% confessing to doing this on a regular basis. Truly astonishing statistics
In an effort to get the latest look without committing to the cost (and perhaps increasing their personal debt), men interestingly are the worst offenders with almost a third keeping their price tags on as they wear items of clothing.
The poll of 3,000 UK consumers showed that younger shoppers are the guiltiest group, with well over a third of respondents aged between 18 and 24 admitting they abuse returns policies by taking outfits back to the retailer after using them on a night out.
At even greater cost, many clothes don’t even see the light of day and remain in the wardrobe, complete with tags on.
According to the research over half of UK shoppers hoard up to five items of clothing in their wardrobe that have never been worn. And worse, some 12% of women conceal up to ten tagged items in their wardrobe – what a huge waste of money!
Duncan Jennings, co-founder of VoucherCodes.co.uk commented on the findings: “The results show that Brits want to been seen in the latest looks, but aren’t that keen on committing to paying for them – often at the expense of the retailer.
It seems that overall, consumers don’t always make the smartest choices when clothes shopping, with many people buying and hoarding items they neither want nor need.”
