Industry experts have suggested that now might be a good time for people to get mortgages and build there own eco homes.Green Moves UK managing director Julian Brooks said that more and more people were now thinking about using a mortgage to finance a green self-build project and added that now could be a perfect time for such a development.
He explained that planners were now looking "favourably upon exceptional sustainable housing projects compared to just any old house builder putting up their standard fare".
What's more, Mr Brooks said that it is currently "a good time to try and get hold of your plot or your old derelict property".
"It's becoming more of a buyers market in terms of the ability to negotiate prices down," he concluded.
This means that people who need to spend less of their mortgage on the land and could use a greater proportion to pay for sustainable systems.
Recent figures from Charcol indicated that fixed-rate mortgages remained very popular in the UK, despite expectations interest rates could drop again before the end of the year.
