Tailored holiday insurance 'vital for travellers'

Holidaymakers need to make sure they always have the most appropriate travel insurance before they head abroad, an industry expert has said.Chris Price, head of Direct Line Travel Insurance, said that it was better to contact a provider and get a tailored policy, rather than rely on easily available products available online.
Mr Price was commenting after a survey from Foreign & Commonwealth Office study showed that 31 per cent of holidaymakers from the UK took part in sports they were not covered by their insurance policies while away in 2007.
"It is very important that travellers take out appropriate insurance to cover them should an incident occur while they're on holiday," he explained.
"The best way to ensure you have the appropriate policy is to contact your insurer and discuss the cover you need for the activities and equipment you are likely to use."
Recently, the Association of Independent Tour Operators explained that booking a package holiday could actually save money, as these sorts of breaks provide cover in the event of something going wrong on the trip.
