Young ladies uring computer A new report has warned that fast connection broadband providers are still not delivering the speeds they are promising to customers.

Which? cited the most recent broadband-expert.co.uk report, which indicated that the average UK customer only received 42 per cent of their promised speed in February and March.

Typically, customers who were expecting a speed of eight megabits per second (Mbps) or faster from their fast connection broadband provider only actually experienced a speed of 3.41 Mbps.

Which? technology editor Matthew Bath said fast connection broadband providers needed to make it clearer that advertised speeds might not be possible.

"Despite Which? calling on internet service providers (ISPs) to deliver on their advertised broadband speeds, consumers are still being left short-changed by slower-than-promised downloads," he explained.

"We are calling on broadband providers to deliver clear, transparent advertising of broadband speeds rather than a vague 'up to' maximum, so consumers can be sure they are getting the service they are paying for."
