Ford Fiesta Zetec Blue The popularity of eco-friendly insurance policies is growing slowly but surely among drivers in the UK.

That is according to MORE TH>N, which has noted that there has been a "steady increase" in the number of British motorists who take out such a policy.

Nick Dear, external communications consultant at the company, attributed this to the fact that more and more people are now driving 'green' and hybrid cars.

Mr Dear also noted that millions of people would like to have a car that was more environmentally friendly to battle rising fuel costs, but are prevented from doing so because at the moment they can actually prove more costly to run.

He commented: "74 per cent of drivers are seriously concerned about the rise in petrol prices, so by driving more economical vehicles and driving in more economical ways we could combat that. Also, 58 per cent of drivers said they would consider switching if they could benefit from cheaper motor insurance."

In February this year, Motorpoint published a survey which revealed that three out of five people who purchase an '08-registered car will collect a vehicle with lower CO2 emissions than their previous car.
