Beach chairs A new study has warned that a significant number of people planning holidays this Easter will set off without valid travel insurance.

Sainsbury's estimated that as many as ten per cent of holidaymakers could head off on holiday without insurance.

It added that 4.2 million people admitted that they did not have travel insurance the last time they went abroad on holiday.

"Easter can be a great time to get away, but these are alarming figures because taking travel insurance on holiday is as important as packing your passport," Neil Laird, the travel insurance manager at Sainsbury's Finance, commented.

"It doesn't matter if it's an Easter break, a weekend away or your main summer holiday, if something happens whilst you're abroad, you need to know that you have adequate cover in place to take care of things."

Interestingly, the study showed that people from London were most likely to risk travelling abroad without insurance.

A shocking one in four people from the capital said they often head off on vacation without cover.

Recently, Trailfinders stressed that it was vital that people planning longer trips opted for appropriate travel insurance.
