Consumers should seek advice on insurance cover

People looking for insurance cover such as critical illness should seek the advice of an insurance broker. That is according to the British Insurance Broker's Association (Biba), which recommended that consulting a broker was a more effective means of researching insurance cover than independently surfing the net.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive of Biba, said that an insurance broker could help consumers find the right policy.
"When you are buying insurances like critical illness don't just go and surf the internet and buy the cheapest thing you can find. Speak to an insurance broker who can give you the right advice on the right policy for you," he advised.
Mr Trudgill added that brokers could also ensure that people understand the terms of the insurance policy.
"You need a professional insurance broker to say 'this is the situation; this is the material fact that must be disclosed, and this isn't'.
"It's all a matter of the advice you get."
