Homeworking People from the UK living abroad are making the most of the internet to keep an eye on their finances remotely.

Research carried out by Alliance & Leicester found that 91 per cent of expats utilise online banking.

Some 41 per cent said they relied on the web to ensure they could access their accounts wherever they are in the world, while 26 per cent like the competitive rates offered online.

Despite this, just 30 per cent of expats are capitalising on offshore savings accounts, the report revealed.

"With internet access now so readily available, offshore consumers should take advantage of internet banking and saving," said Simon Hull from Alliance & Leicester.

"As well as offering speedy transfers and an up-to-date snapshot of your finances, the offshore banking and savings market is quickly developing many of the online facilities already available from its onshore counterparts."

The study also revealed that 54 per cent of households in the EU used the internet in the first three months of 2007, compared to 49 per cent in the same period the year before.
