Women 'lending more' than men

Women offer more money in the form of loans to their children than men do, according to the findings of a new study.Research carried out by Unbiased found that 52 per cent of females have given or lent their offspring money, compared to just 40 per cent of males.
The report showed that men were in fact more likely to loan cash to their friends, with 45 per cent offering money to pals.
Parents in London were found to be the least likely to lend money to the kids, with just 29 per cent bailing offspring out, while 49 per cent of mums and dads in the north of England have given children loans.
"It is clear from our research that the majority of women are the 'softer' parent that children rely on for financial assistance," said David Elms from Unbiased.
"However, both parents in the London area appear to encourage their children to be more financially independent and do not lend money as frequently as parents up north."
Children may be in increasing need of parental help, as the credit crunch affects lenders' criteria. A report from Moneysupermarket revealed that loan acceptance rates have declined in each of the last six months.
