Insurance vital for rugby fans

The Webb-Ellis trophy People planning on travelling to France to watch the upcoming Rugby World Cup should make sure they obtain comprehensive travel insurance before they go.

Halifax Travel Insurance has revealed that many rugby fans planning on heading over the Channel in September may forgo insurance because they are only taking a short break.

However, the insurer warned that the same risks still apply, even if a holiday is just a few days long.

What's more, Halifax added that sports fans could consider investing in an annual policy, as they are often not much more expensive than a single trip policy.

Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting for Halifax Travel Insurance, commented: "Excited rugby fans travelling to France this month will no doubt check, double check and triple check their passports and match tickets before they go, but one thing that often gets overlooked is travel insurance.

"With more and more of us taking short breaks abroad, annual travel insurance is proving a more attractive proposition for many people. With little difference in price and in some cases actually cheaper, it makes sense to take out annual cover."

Recently, the Post Office suggested that around half of Brits heading off on holiday do not bother to take out travel insurance.
