Brits' dream home revealed

New research from Halifax has discovered what sort of house a person in the UK is most likely to spend their mortgage on.The lender's findings show that 50 per cent of people revealed that they would prefer to spend their mortgage on a detached house.
In addition, 22 per cent said they prefer new builds and 30 per cent said their dream home would be located in the countryside.
Typically, consumers would opt to use their mortgage to buy a home with three bedrooms, a lounge, a study, a playroom and a family bathroom.
In addition, people said that they would like central heating, double glazing, a fitted kitchen, a modern bathroom, an enclosed garden, off-street parking, a garage and a home security system.
"Although many of us live in towns or cities, there is no disputing that a house in the country is what the majority of us aspire to," commented Phil Jenks, head of mortgages at Halifax.
"The preference for new build detached properties shows that people want their home to be personal to them and that space and privacy is also important."
Recent data from Hometrack showed that annual house price inflation in England and Wales was 5.4 per cent in July - down from 5.9 per cent in the previous month.
