More and more people in the UK are buying their insurance products online, an industry expert has said.Emma Holyer, a spokesperson for Churchill, explained that many insurance companies now offer customers a ten per cent discount when they buy online.
In addition, the websites of insurance companies are "fully secure", which means that customers do not have to worry about fraud when purchasing cover.
Ms Holyer added the people liked buying insurance online because it meant that they could do it whenever it suited them.
"[People are] not limited by hours that we work and it's easy to compare the prices that you're getting," she explained.
"It's a quick process, it takes between two and three minutes.
"The website is really easy to use. You fill your details in and it's all sent back to you so when your certificate arrives in the post you have to check it yourself and if there are any changes to make you just let us know."
Recent figures from Sainsbury's Bank showed that one in five motorists only obtained one quote when shopping for car insurance. The firm calculated that drivers could have saved up to £124 if they had used the internet to look for a better deal.
