People feel that their children are a major distraction when driving - making comprehensive insurance vital - a new study suggests.According to data gathered by LV= General Insurance, eight million drivers in the UK said that having small children in the car was the biggest disturbance when on the road.
Other distractions that drivers cited as factors which could contribute to accidents included talking on mobile phones, using entertainment systems and satellite navigation systems, and eating and drinking while at the wheel.
"On today’s busy roads, with 16 per cent of accidents having fatal or serious consequences, it is vital to maintain 100 per cent concentration when behind the wheel," explained Andrew Beard from LV= General Insurance.
"With the holiday season just around the corner, many families will be setting off on longer than usual car journeys - preparation is the key to help avoid in-car distractions."
Figures also indicate that there were nearly 150,000 car accidents on the UK's roads last year, making comprehensive car insurance vital for people planning on driving with young children.
According to the AA, the average cost of fully comprehensive car insurance in the UK was £802 in the first quarter of 2007.
