More customers 'happy with utility suppliers'

British Gas engineer2 Customers are more satisfied with their utility suppliers than they were six months ago, new research suggests.

Data gathered by uSwitch.com shows that 11 per cent more customers are now satisfied with the service they receive from British Gas. Six months ago, less than half of British Gas' customers were happy with their service, but now 55 per cent of people said they were pleased with service from the supplier.

Similarly, 11 per cent more of Powergen's customers said they were pleased with the service they received, pushing the utility supplier into third place.

Overall, Scottish & Southern Energy was voted the best provider, as 70 per cent of customers feeling happy with the service they experience.

"The key thing for the energy giants now is to take stock and listen to what customers are saying," said Ann Robinson, the consumer policy director at uSwitch.com.

"But more importantly, customers also need to carry on taking matters into their own hands and change suppliers if their current one is failing them.

"This is the language that the industry understands and responds to best."

The company which owns British Gas, Centrica, revealed that it expects to announce "operating profit above current consensus estimates".
