Using credit cards online 'not perceived as a risk'

Laptop user People are increasingly prepared to risk using their credit cards to make online purchases, according to a new report.

Figures published by Travelodge showed that using credit cards online tops a list of 'risky' activities that people are prepared to undertake.

This is despite the fact that recent research from Get Safe Online showed that 12 per cent of internet users in the UK experienced online fraud in 2006 and that the average crime resulted in a loss of £875.

Buying goods online was shown to be particularly risky, with 1.7 million people reporting that they were defrauded while shopping on the net in 2006.

Travelodge's study also revealed that people were prepared to go on holiday without taking out insurance.

"We are all prepared to take some level of risk in our lives but some are willing to gamble harder than others," said Guy Parsons, Travelodge's chief operating officer.

"Travelling abroad without insurance could save you £10 but cost £10,000 - the odds are not hot."
