Consumers miss out on credit card deals

More than half the people in the UK who have credit cards have one which offers them no additional perks, new research suggests.According to Goldfish, 52 per cent of all credit card holders in the UK receive no extra offers - such as balance transfer deals or air miles - on their plastic. This equates to over 20 million cardholders who are missing out on deals.
Of the people who do receive some form of offer, retail rewards schemes proved to be the most popular, with 30 per cent having a card with this sort of deal. Cash-back (21 per cent) and air miles (nine per cent) were also deals people took up.
"Credit card holders need to demand more from their plastic," said Charlotte Hogg, managing director for the Goldfish Credit Card. "If customers hold a card that doesn't reward their spending then they should investigate what other cards might be better suited to their spending patterns.
"We have found that an increasing number of our customers are using their credit cards for everyday purchases such as groceries and petrol, realising that they can reap rewards for all the regular purchases they make anyway."
Recently, the British Bankers' Association revealed that "credit card borrowing was flat in February following recent falls".
