'Forced out' boomers turn to internet

A full 40 per cent of self-employed boomers say that the internet is fundamental to their business, according to a recent survey from Birmingham Midshires.
Approximately one million people over 45 are struggling to find work because of their age, the data showed.
Jason Robinson, director of savings operations at Birmingham Midshires, said: "Our Life 2 research shows that the internet has gone some way to help people overcome the age barrier in employment that many face as they get older."
Birmingham Midshires has seen a growing trend of older people managing their money on the internet, but now they are also making money as well as saving it, added Mr Robinson.
In London, 12 per cent of over-45s are completely reliant on the internet to make their money and to form business ties, the most out of any region in the UK.
Meanwhile, baby boomers are heading into retirement in worse physical shape than their predecessors, according to data from the National Bureau of Economic Research.
