Saga vows to cover faulty petrol damage

As motorists in the south of England continue to struggle to cope with damage caused to their vehicles from faulty petrol, a major insurer has vowed to cover the costs for its customers.

Motor insurance provider Saga has stated that it will honour claims for damage by the petrol under comprehensive policies.

Over one million motorists were affected by the contaminated petrol, which was sold primarily at Morrisons, Tesco and Vopak pumping stations.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga, said: "Thousands of drivers are likely to have suffered this week due to contaminated petrol causing damage to their vehicles, but we would like to reassure our policyholders that we will honour claims."

All motorists should contact their insurance providers to find out whether they are covered for the damage caused by the faulty petrol, Mr Goodsell added.

Tesco has reportedly found silicon in its fuel and is planning to empty its tanks in 150 locations across the south-east.
