Get travel insurance on your credit card, says Money Expert

Credit card holders have been reminded that they might be paying over the odds for travel insurance, as some credit card deals already offer cover for trips abroad.Price comparison website Money Expert has highlighted this added extra that it claims many credit card holders remain unaware of.
This lack of knowledge of credit card holders leads many of them to purchase additional travel insurance before they go abroad, Money Expert claimed, meaning that they could end up paying double for the same cover.
"Travel insurance is one of those bonuses for credit card holders – but only if you know you've got it," commented Sean Gardner, Money Expert chief executive.
He said many Britons will buy travel insurance ahead of a visit abroad without thinking to check their credit card features.
"It always makes sense to buy specialist travel insurance but you should check what your card offers," Mr Gardner added.
However, the website did highlight that in order to qualify for automatic travel insurance, credit card holders may be required to pay for a certain proportion of their holiday on plastic.
Money Expert estimated that the last ten months have seen an increase in average travel insurance to £107, 547 from £84,534.
