Britons 'losing cash' waiting for tradespeople

Plumber Employees are losing out on over 5,000 over the course of their lifetime as a result of waiting for home deliveries and tradespeople each year.

New research carried out by Churchill Insurance shows that over a third (35 per cent) of employees took time off each year to wait in, amounting to some 13.5 million days off work in total.

According to the group, 15 per cent of honest employees have taken unpaid time off work to wait at home to get a job done, which costs them on average £116 each year.

However, businesses may also be losing out to tardy tradespeople and home delivery men, with the research showing that three per cent of respondents call in sick each year for this reason, at a £100 million cost to firms.

Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance, said: "Our research clearly shows there is a hidden cost to householders when having repairs undertaken or receiving deliveries which few of us consider.

"In an emergency, home insurers often offer helplines providing contact details of reputable tradesmen even if a claim isn’t being made," he added.
