Oil storage tanks Six million customers stand to gain as npower joins the price cutting war amongst energy providers.

The company is the latest to cut fuel bills for gas and electricity following the recent drop in wholesale gas prices.

Npower has announced it will cut gas prices by 16 per cent, and electricity prices by three per cent, from the start of May.

British Gas, Powergen and Scottish & Southern Energy are among other companies to have announced cuts.

British Gas cut the prices by 17 per cent for its ten million gas customers last month.

Npower has undercut this by offering a cut of 18 percent for its customers who pay by monthly direct debit for both electricity and gas.

The group price cutting activity comes after a steady drop in the price of gas since the summer.

Energy regulator Ofgem warned gas and electricity suppliers that they would face official sanctions if they did not pass on the benefit of the wholesale reductions to their customers.
