Self-employment key to happiness

Direct UK Transport Although being self-employed may leave you financially insecure it is a sure fire way to achieve inner peace and happiness, according to a new survey.

Despite the worry of a penniless retirement, self-employed people feel they have much greater career enjoyment, Scottish Widows research has discovered.

The study found that almost two in five self-employed consumers were making no contributions to their pension or savings.

Ian Naismith, Scottish Widows spokesman, said: "The position of the self-employed is a particular concern.

"Losing out on employer contributions, including in the proposed personal accounts, means that it is imperative they have a savings plan in place for their retirement."

In fact, Mr Naismith said many were "under saving significantly" when put alongside their employed friends and family.

There were age gaps exposed also with three out of five self employed workers being aged 50 years old or more.

However, half of the employed people questioned said they would happily quit work tomorrow while only 36 per cent of self-employed would be willing to quit immediately.
