2006 sees UK house prices performing well
Published On 6 February 2007
Last year saw UK house prices increasing at a faster pace than a number of major European countries, a new survey has found. Figures from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) discovered that UK house prices were beating the likes of France, Italy and Germany.
In fact, Germany saw no growth in house prices while France and Italy saw just seven per cent and four per cent growth respectively.
The UK did not hit top spot though with impressive growth in Scandinavian countries – Denmark saw growth of 22 per cent with 17 per cent in Norway and 11 per cent in Sweden.
Michael Ball, author of the report, said: "Fears of a considerable house price slowdown in what are considered as over-heated markets of the UK, Spain and Ireland, once again proved to be quite off the mark.
"Rising income and employment have cushioned these and other markets across Europe from rising interest rates and the prospects for 2007 remain good."
