Unusual insurance claims 2006

Car Smash 2 A number of interesting household insurance claims cropped up last year for one of the UK's largest insurers.

Lloyds TSB Insurance has revealed the true extent of the unusual claims that its employees deal with in the course of a year.

Among the strangest claims was a digital radio that was damaged after the customer's granddaughter had tried to play music in the garden pond to encourage the fishes to dance.

A home alone Labrador who dipped his tail in to a painting tray and gave the living room a new coat of emulsion caused another claim for the firm.

Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, commented: "We may try and anticipate accidents to help make our lives as safe as possible, yet as our postbag shows, we cannot prevent all accidents from happening, no matter how careful we are.

"It's often a question of being sensible, carrying out maintenance to your home and ensuring that you have a good understanding of what your insurance policy does and doesn't cover."

Hamsters, rabbits and a flock of chickens also managed to cause damage to their owners' homes during the course of the year, while a disposable BBQ tray melted the asphalt on a roof terrace.
