ABI: Shop around for cheaper car premiums

Published On 20 December 2006
Ford Focus The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has advised consumers to shop around when looking for the best car insurance deals.

Malcolm Tarling, ABI spokesman, said that while he was unable to comment on insurance premium rises across the board, there were definitely savings to be made for more canny shoppers.

His comments follow recent rises in car insurance premiums from Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) providers such as Churchill, Privilege and Direct Line. RBS said that motor policy premiums had risen by five per cent across its brands since September this year.

Mr Tarling responded to whether British consumers could beat the recent premium increases.

He said: "You can always do that, not just at this time. You can always shop around, and you should consider shopping around because there are savings to be had."

Speaking on further price rises across the industry, Mr Tarling stated "I am not an analyst so I wouldn't want to speculate on that".
