British workers should insure against accidents

British workers are being advised to make sure that they are properly insured against accidents that could curtail their income.According to a study by Alliance & Leicester Protection, 14 million workers or just over half of the UK's working population would be unable to manage financially if they suffered an accident, became ill or lost their job.
Of the 39 per cent that said they would be able to get by, one in five would be forced to raid their savings to makes ends meet.
Lindsey Henson, the manager for protection at Alliance & Leicester, said that it is easy to take the security of a monthly income for granted.
"However, if you become ill, suffer an accident or are made redundant then you may be unable to earn an income," she explains.
"It is vitally important to consider what measures you can put in place to ensure you can continue to meet your financial commitments and maintain a reasonable standard of living."
One in five workers were found to have no insurance and no savings to turn to in case of a debilitating accident.
