Don't fall into the trap of undervaluing your possessions for home insurance purposes this Christmas, a leading insurer has warned.Halifax Home Insurance has told customers they could be penalised for underestimating the value of their property's contents this Christmas.
Research from the company has found that many consumers unwittingly exceed the contents allowance of their insurance policy as they do not factor in the expensive gifts they have stashed away for the 25th December.
Vicky Emmott, Halifax Home spokesperson, said: "Halifax customers can relax at Christmas as unlike most insurers it offers unlimited contents cover all year round.
"Although some insurers will increase contents cover over Christmas this still leaves the problem of re-evaluating your contents in the new year.
"It's also vital for people without unlimited cover to remember to update their insurer with any changes to their contents value and be aware that some insurers, but not Halifax, will penalise customers who underestimate the value of their belongings."
