BBA issues anti-fraud advice

The British Bankers' Association (BBA) has issued a number of tips to help consumers and banks avoid financial fraud. The pointers have been unveiled in order to reduce the £1.2 million that is lost in fraudulent card transactions every day.
Memorising passwords rather than keeping them on paper, shredding documents and receipts and not letting cards out of your sight during transactions are among the key things to remember, the BBA states.
Ensuring that your computer has up to date virus software is another important step in preventing criminals from accessing your details.
Angela Knight, chief executive designate of the BBA, urged consumers and institutions to remember the maxim: "When you use it - keep it secret. When you are done - shred it.
"Too often you see people just throw away in the bin the kind of information fraudsters can use," she explained.
"They leave PIN numbers lying around or write them on their cards. We've all heard people talking too loudly on their mobiles in places where anyone could overhear personal details."
The European Security Transport Association claims that the UK is the EU's main source of credit card fraud.
