'Tis the season to be clumsy

Christmas and New Year's Eve are festive affairs with much frivolity and merriment but they are also a hotbed for home accidents, a leading insurer has warned.Research from Barclays Insurance has found that the period after big Christmas festivities saw a 41 per cent jump in accidental damage notifications compared with November.
Mark Till, Barclays Insurance spokesman, said: "Everyone is looking forward to this year's party season and many people will be hosting their own Christmas or New Year parties in their homes.
"Our data shows that during the Christmas party season people are particularly likely to incur accidental damage incidents in their homes.
"We all know how quickly drinks get spilled or glasswork gets broken – and the cost of replacing items or cleaning carpets or furniture can quickly add up."
Barclays estimated that the average accidental damage claim for homes in 2005 amounted to a sizeable £4,293.
So if you want your Christmas party to be a case of "ho, ho, ho" not "no, no, no", make sure you have adequate home insurance.
