Consumers opt for jumpers over larger heating bills

With winter fast approaching, consumers are choosing to hold off on the heating bills by opting to layer on an extra jumper instead, according to new research.A study by moneysupermarket has found that more than half of us (56 per cent) delay putting the heating on due to the increase in energy prices.
On top of this, rising utility bills mean that 61 per cent of us would rather put on extra clothes to keep warm than use the heating.
Paul Schofield, moneysupermarket spokesman, said: "It is clear that people are worried about their energy bills, particularly in light of the utilities companies putting prices up so frequently this year. It's concerning the public is being deterred from turning on their heating, particularly the old and vulnerable.
"Other, however may have been lulled into a false sense of security by the talk of falling wholesale gas prices, yet it is still not certain when or whether the impact from falling wholesale gas prices will be passed onto them if at all."
