400,000 underinsured skiers to hit the slopes

Just fewer than 400,000 winter holidaymakers are set to hit the slopes this Christmas with inadequate insurance to cover their trip, new research has found.A study by AA Travel Insurance has discovered that many holidaymakers are simply accepting the standard policy offered to them as part of their package.
Given that 1.3 million people are set to fly off to enjoy the snow this winter, AA research has found that some 374,000 people could be hitting the slopes without adequate insurance.
This figure is reflected in the fact that 48 per cent of people book holidays through their travel agent and six out of ten travellers arrange cover as part of their package rather than purchasing a policy elsewhere.
Clare Emsley, head of AA Travel Insurance, said: "Customers often simply tick a box without properly understanding what they are paying for, because important terms and conditions are not drawn to their attention.
"For example, many travel agents neglect to tell customers that pre-existing conditions need to be declared. Whilst this will be specified in the policy 'small print' most people don't look until it is too late.
"It's also vital to ensure that you're fully covered in the event of any nasty accidents on the slopes."
