Fireworks night causes insurance concerns

Many consumers may be checking their house insurance policies with new research showing that over a million British homes have been damaged as a result of off-target fireworks in the last five years. The study, which was commissioned by Churchill, also found that many naughty neighbours are to blame with over a million revellers admitting to hitting next door's properties with fireworks in the past.
Churchill has offered a number of tips to help homeowners keep their house safe on November 5th. These include: ensuring that fireworks are only bought from a recommended retailer, never storing fireworks in the house, keeping fireworks dry at all times, and following all fireworks instructions carefully.
This advice is even more crucial given that around eight million homes are planning to celebrate Bonfire Night at their own houses or the properties of family and friends this year.
Martin Scott, Churchill head of home insurance, said: "Personal safety and the potential for damage to property are clearly major issues for homeowners hosting parties on Bonfire Night. By observing a few safety precautions, the risk of accidents can be significantly reduced."
