People rely on partners to fund their retirement

A new survey has revealed that a sizeable minority of the population is expecting their partner to fund their retirement. The survey by Zurich UK found that eight per cent of men are expecting to be seen through their later years by their other half, while 14 per cent of women were hoping their man would provide all they need for their retirement.
The report also found that Britons are planning to be less dependent on a state pension than in the past, with just 13 per cent of 25 to 34-year-olds believing they will have to rely on it.
Dave Lowe, the director of pensions management at Zurich UK, remarked: "Whilst it is interesting to see that a proportion of men are looking to their partners to help fund their retirement, the most encouraging finding has to be that the message about not relying on the state seems to be hitting home, particularly among the younger generation."
He added that with state pensions providing increasingly less funds and improving life expectancy, it is more important than ever to save adequately for the future.
Almost a third of those of retirement age are reliant on their state pension, the report found.
