Figures from uSwitch have shown that the number of broadband internet users is set to double by 2010 while over 80 per cent of households are expected to have an internet connection by this time.

The new research suggests the days of consumers using dial-up for their internet connection are all but numbered with only 100,000 dial-up connections still expected to exist in 2010.

In fact, by 2010 the number of broadband connections is set to grow by 90 per cent up to 21 million.

Chris Williams, uSwitch broadband product manager, said: "There are a number of internet users currently choosing not to take a broadband connection, but it may not be much longer before that choice is made for them by the ISP's bundling other products with broadband.

"Soon, if customers want to receive all of their communication products through one supplier, they will need to take a broadband service."
