Supermarket self-scan tills open to card fraud

Tesco A security loophole on a leading supermarket's self service till provision has left many consumers open to credit and debit card fraud, according to new figures.

At around 200 Tesco supermarket stores across the UK, shoppers are able to scan in their shopping goods themselves with a debit or credit card, reports consumer watchdog Which?.

However, there is a flaw in the system as the Tesco self service tills do not require card signature or the entering of a pin.

A number of consumers have found themselves out of pocket as a result of this latest scam for crooks who copy their cards and use them at these tills.

Neil Fowler, Which? editor, said: "It's hard to believe that the UK's biggest supermarket is making it so easy for criminals to use stolen credit cards in their stores. We think it's highly irresponsible.

"As a shop that prides itself on caring about its customers, we can only hope they close this obvious loophole and introduce standard procedures in the very near future."
