Vote in order to receive credit
Published On 2 October 2006
Britons who are eligible to vote but are unregistered at their current abode could be denied credit, according to a leading credit reference agency.Experian has warned people to ensure that their electoral roll details are up to date before the October 10th cut off point slips by.
"Some organisations will refuse to give you credit or other financial services if your credit report shows that you are not registered to vote at your current address," explained Jill Stevens, director of consumer affairs with Experian.
"This is because they use this information to help check that your name and address is correct."
Ms Stevens advised that lenders will often accept utility bill payments or a tenancy agreement as proof that you have moved home if your details are not yet on the electoral roll.
She added that when moving house, Brits should ensure they supply their council with their updated details as soon as is possible.
