Three Cut Their Mobile Data Roaming Charges

Three UK has a new deal and cut the cost of data roaming charges for football fans travelling to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

3 Mobile PhoneWith some 20,000 England fans expected to travel to the World Cup the news from Three that they are cutting their data roaming charges will no doubt be considered good news by many.

Three has cut prices by more than 50% for its customers during June and July, ensuring smartphone and dongle users won’t get burned by data charges during the month long World Cup event.

The deal means that Three’s data roaming prices in South Africa  are now more than 50% cheaper than the nearest rival’s standard data rate, giving fans an affordable way to surf the internet, update their status and use email while supporting England this summer.

To benefit from this roaming deal, customers customers don’t have to do anything as it’s automatically at no extra cost. You only pay for what you use.

The deal sees roaming data priced at £1.25 per megabyte, compared with as much as £8 with some rivals on their standard tariff.  You can see more details on the Three website.

Three has also cut its voice roaming charges to and from South Africa by 30% to give customers an even wider choice of ways to stay in touch with friends and family back home. This means  a roaming voice call now to anywhere in the world from South Africa will cost Three customers just £1.40 / min to make, and 99p / min to receive. Meanwhile an MMS message will cost 25p and a text message 35p.

Three’s Sales and Marketing Director, Marc Allera, said: “Staying in touch with friends and family while abroad, and sharing the experiences you are having, is really important to our customers.”

He added “That’s why we have decided to reduce the cost of doing this for UK fans travelling to South Africa for the World Cup, especially around data roaming prices.
