A free panic alarm app for the iPhone has been launched by Legal & General to help protect those who have left their panic alarm at home or for men who may feel too embarrassed to carry one.
With research indicating that many criminals are targeting people away from their homes instead of house burglary, Legal & general have created an app for the iPhone that is prominently displayed on the iPhone screen and can be easily activated either by pressing the button or shaking the phone.
The phone then emits an ear-shattering alarm to shock and disorientate a potential attacker. This gives the alarm user vital seconds to get away, as well as attracting attention so an attacker thinks twice about following through a possible attack.
The app can also automatically issue an SOS call to a nominated phone number from the address book. The person receiving the call can hear what is going on and can then respond accordingly.
Ruth Connor, Head of Consumer Proposition at Legal & General’s general insurance business, said: “We’re trying to give people a little extra peace-of-mind when walking home at night by combining an easy-to-use panic alarm with a simple way of making a call for help.”
“Feeling safe outside of the home, whether it’s on the way back from work or the pub or simply going to your car is just as important as feeling safe inside. The application is just about the most convenient way for people to carry around an attack alarm. Because it’s on their phone, they are less likely to forget it.”
With expensive personal items such as iPhones and ipods having good resale values, it is now wonder that thieves are taking the opportunity to commit muggings rather than risk breaking and entering houses, it is important that these items are covered by good gadget insurance, however smart phone apps such as this issued by Legal & General help the individual improve their personal security.
