iPhone users can now receive free directory enquiries from a new iPhone App provided by 192.com.

iPhone 4Using 118 directory enquiry services can be expensive with calls from a landline costing £1.50 and £2 for the first minute from a mobile, so the recent launch of an app providing free directory enquiries is good news for iPhone users.

The free app, called i192, also offers free business listings with GPS geo-location integration to find the nearest supplier to your current position.

Time considerations are also taken into account by the app so that during daylight hours it displays different results than in the evening. For example, the app displays one-click business links for cafes and shops and at night these links will switch to relevant businesses and services such as bars, clubs and taxis.

“We’re putting the phonebook on your mobile, with free directory enquiries saving consumers tens of millions per-year in calls to 118 services.” , comments Alastair Crawford CEO of 192.com.

Unfortunately users of Android smartphones will not benefit from this free service as it is currently only available for the iPhone although free directory services with business search capabilities are also available at www.thephonebook.bt.com.

You can download the i192 app for free from the iTunes Store: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/i192/id400204785?mt=8
