Christmas Sales Of Playstation 3 To Outstrip Microsoft Xbox 360

According to a survey by GameVision Europe and Kelkoo, Christmas sales of the Sony Playstation 3 will outsrip those of the Microsoft Xbox 360.

Amazingly almost 2 million new gaming consoles are expected to be sold in the last few months of the year as we lead up to Christmas.

Up to 41% of these, or around 750,000, will be Playstation 3 (PSP3) sales.

The Nintendo Wii is set be knocked off the top spot for the first time in 3 years with it expected to account for 36% of sales – that’s still some 650,000 consoles!

Sales of the Xbox 360 are expected to be down in 3rd place with some 400,000 consoles being sold.

Bundled gaming consoles are being offered by many retailers, providing the opportunity to save money on a bundle that usually comprises the console plus maybe a cable and a game or two.

Even so, with the gaming consoles being in high demand and with their high price tag, the worry is many will turn to borrow money to fund their purchases for Christmas.

Interestingly many PS3 bundles are expected to include Move controllers – The PlayStation Move gives PlayStation 3 gamers a new way to play and interact with their PlayStation 3. The Move is actually broken into three separate parts; the Motion Controller, Navigation Controller and the PlayStation Eye Camera.

MoneyHighStreet comment – whilst the sales of the Xbox 360 are set to be down in third place, is this really going to continue to be the case once the power of the new Kinect hardware is recognised and utilised by developers? We think not.

This is amazing technology, to allow players to use videogames without hand controllers, or any wires, is a great step forward. Of course though it’s success will depend on developers really drving forward with this great new addition. Let’s hope they pick up the mantle.
