Many Mums Shun Life Insurance Cover

Many mothers are not covered by life insurance and would rather change a dirty nappy rather than sort out suitable life cover.

Life InsuranceConfused.com has researched the take up of life insurance by mothers and found that nearly half of mums (48%) do not have any life insurance.

When asked to rank a list of tasks in order of importance, most mums would rather change a dirty nappy than arrange suitable life insurance cover.

Many mums seem to lack sufficient time to find the best life insurance deal, although a third of those questioned felt that life cover was an unnecessary cost.

There appears to be a general lack of understanding about the benefits of life insurance with many wives believing that they have sufficient cover because their husbands have a life policy.

Lack of trust in insurance providers was also cited as a reason to shun life cover.

“It’s a real worry that so few mums have life insurance cover. Whether they go out to work or are full time parents it’s important that they have protection in place for themselves and not just their partners.

Sorting out life insurance cover doesn’t have to take a long time or be complicated, but it is important to have in the event the worst should happen.”, said Matthew Lloyd, head of life insurance at Confused.com.

“Mums should work out how much cover they need to protect their contribution to the household and consider how long they would want this cover to last – i.e. until their children reach 18, 21 or older”, he advised.
