Would you fake a home insurance claim?

With the credit crunch and recession taking its toll, some 1 in 20 Brits admit they would fake a home insurance claim – would you?

House InsuranceMaking a false home insurance claim may seem an easy way to help as the credit crunch hits personal finances but as Julie Owens of moneysupermarket comments ‘fabricating a claim for a pay out is not only wholly inadvisable but it is also illegal, and you could face being prosecuted as a result.’

Buying home insurance to protect you in case of fire or flood or finding that your home has been burgled is considered by many as a vital expense to cover – an expense that could save money in the long term if you do have to make a genuine claim.

To use this insurance cover though to fake a claim to help cover your money problems is not only illegal but it also hits those honest Brits who end up having higher home insurance premiums to pay because of your dishonesty – and of course it also hits the insurer.

If you are facing money problems a far better option is to be proactive and consider how you perhaps can perhaps budget more effectively or use better forms of credit.

If you do feel these problems are getting out of control it might be time to consider getting debt advice – the sooner you take action the better.
