ABTA, the Travel Association, is encouraging England football fans to book their travel now to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to get the best deals and importantly don’t forget travel insurance.

Travel InsuranceFIFA is also warning football fans not to book tickets and tour packages through companies unless they are FIFA appointed.

Thomson and Thomas Cook are both FIFA appointed and ABTA members and you can buy World Cup travel packages with match tickets from under £2,500.

M&S Money is also warning fans not to wait until next summer to buy travel insurance.

Often travellers need to make a claim on their holiday before the holiday has begun – for example

  • you, your partner or close relative may become ill or injured before the holiday or
  • you or a travel partner may be made redundant
  • you or a travel partner may be called up for jury service.

If travelling independently, rather than as part of a package, you may not be provided with the same level of protection for example if a flight is cancelled you may not be able to claim for subsequent connections and therefore have to cover the costs of new flights or accommodation.

Using a comparison website such as Confused.com or moneysupermarket.com you can easily compare travel insurance quotes and see exactly what cover is offered for what price.

As Steve Price, Head of General Insurance at M&S said ‘Tickets for the matches will no doubt be hot property, but fans should also think about what they would do if the worst happens.

Travel insurance can provide financial support long befor you step on to a flight, so England fans would be wise to invest in a comprehensive policy now.’

As ABTA also advise, fans should keep an eye on foreign office travel advice for South Africa and seek medical advice to ensure they are covered against all the relevant infectious diseases.

Mark Tanzer ABTA Chief Executive comments ‘This World Cup in South Africa will allow England fans the opportunity to visit one of the world’s most beautiful and welcoming countries. Booking with an ABTA member will be the best way to get best deals and avoid any potential disappointment.

Let’s hope England have as much success at the 2010 World Cup as they did in 1966.
