Sainsburys Car Insurance is warning of the dangers of secondhand child car seats – buying one could mean you’re placing a child at higher risk as it may be damaged or have been involved in an accident.
If a child car seat has been involved in an accident it may not work properly, there may be hidden faults.
If there are hidden faults, the seat could provide little or no protection.
Despite this, as the Sainsburys research shows, around 15% of child car seats used are received from a friend or family member or bought second hand on sites such as Ebay.
