Virgin Money Car Insurance warns motorists about December 19th

Virgin Money Car insurance has warned Christmas shoppers and motorists to be on their guard on December 19th as that is the day when most vehicular accidents are likely to be reported – and most car claims to be filed.

According to Virgin Money, the last Saturday before Christmas is traditionally the most dangerous day for drivers with over 40% more claims filed than in any other day of December.

It also makes sense to shop around for the best car insurance by using a comparison site such as Confused.com.

Claims figure released by Virgin Money Car Insurance showed that December 19th is the worst day in the month for car insurance claims including accidents and thefts from vehicles. Analysts believe that this is because this is day when most Brits do their last minute shopping therefore more cars are on the road than the average day.

However, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are the two safest days on the road in December, with insurance claims on Christmas day falling at least a seventh of the average while Boxing Day claims are less than half the average.

Virgin Money spokesman Grant Bather said, “Christmas is a time for giving but maybe drivers should be giving the car a miss on December 19th if they want to keep their no-claims bonus.

“With more drivers on the road and cars potentially loaded up with presents it can be a dangerous time for claims. However it is good to see that Christmas Day and Boxing Day are safe times to be on the road.

Bather added that claims filed on Christmas Eve are slightly below average for the month while New Year’s Eve claims are slightly above average.

But the most dangerous day of the year for car insurance claims is October 19th as the clocks go back and that most car claims occur in the final three months of the year, accounting for 30% of all claims.
